A modern reproduction of this suffragette poster, originally published by the Brighton and Hove Women's Francise Society, 191x (exact date uncertain). Printed with archival inks on premium paper (300 GSM, Silk Art, photographic print). Poster (in varying shades of brown and black) shows a woman holding a banner ("Justice Demands the Vote"), next to a shrouded woman holding the scales of justice. They're held back by a rope tied to two posts. Below the steps, a shrouded mother cuddles her baby and another woman in period fashion looks on. She was a leading suffragette from Yorkshire, who became the full-time organiser of the WSPU in Leeds in 1906. Attractive, circular plated gold-coloured metal reproduction brooch / badge with firm safety-pin fitment at the rear for affixing to clothes. The original badge, on which this is faithfully based, was designed by Sylvia Pankhurst for the suffragette campaign in 1909 / 1910. It incorporates the purple, white and green colour-scheme of the Women's Social and Political Union, and depicts a woman stepping through an iron gate and heavy chains, carrying a 'Votes for Women' streamer. 25mm in diameter.
