On an inner white circle, in the centre of the badge, the letters "W.S.P.U" and the date "1913" appear, also in gold. Gold back and safety pin to rear for easy affixing to garments. The original badge, on which this is faithfully based, was designed by Sylvia Pankhurst for the suffragette campaign in 1909 / 1910. It incorporates the purple, white and green colour-scheme of the Women's Social and Political Union, and depicts a woman stepping through an iron gate and heavy chains, carrying a 'Votes for Women' streamer. 25mm in diameter.
