The original badge, on which this is faithfully based, was designed by Sylvia Pankhurst for the suffragette campaign in 1909 / 1910. It incorporates the purple, white and green colour-scheme of the Women's Social and Political Union, and depicts a woman stepping through an iron gate and heavy chains, carrying a 'Votes for Women' streamer. 25mm in diameter. The Portcullis: The WSPU Holloway Badge / Brooch

The original Holloway brooch, of which this is a faithful replica, was designed by Sylvia Panhurst and presented from 1909 onwards to suffragettes who had undergone imprisonment. The portcullis and chains are in a non-precious antique-chrome plate, and the arrow on top, which is the convict symbol, is purple, white and green enamel (the colours of the WSPU).
