It's presented with a complimentary purple velvet pouch in an attractive silver-backed gift bag, and makes the perfect gift. (Particularly for any woman with a mind of her own!) The original badge from the suffragette era was glass-faced and contained woven fabric in the three suffragette colours. Therefore, the reproduction here has been created in transparent metallic enamels to give the idea of glass, and it also displays a downward gold-plated 'striping' to give the woven effect. A full colour poster print from the original, hand-painted oils-on-canvas portrait (2003), which has been based upon a black and white photograph, circa 1909. (The photo in question is held by the British Museum). Image size is 18 X 20 inches, with titles extending the print size to 18 x 23 inches. Printed on 120 GSM archival matt art paper, using photo-sensitive inks, for superior imagery and longevity. Image can be supplied, in thumbnail, upon request. Stratton, Helen.
Walberswick Marshes:
(Date unknown).
An original delicate watercolour painting on card (unframed) believed to be by the artist Helen Stratton (24.5 cm x 27.5cm or 9.5 inches x 10.5 inches). Stratton is a highly-regarded illustrator of children's fairy tales. Signed with initials in bottom right-hand corner (active 1891-1925). Framer's plate (which is separate, but which has presumably been on the back of the picture when framed) gives provenance - Walberswick Marshes - Helen Stratton - and her London address: 113 Abingdon Road, Kensington. The picture, in greens and blues, is of a bridge over marshland. Walberswick in Suffolk was a haven for artists in the 1890s and 1900s and is associated with Philip Wilson Steer and his circle of English Impressionists. The card has suffered a little acidification from the original backing boards. Corners worn, one slightly split, some browning to edges, and light brown staining to top left edge, about 1.5cm wide.
